The Barcelona Institute of Architecture (BIArch) is an international institution set up to further interaction between academic research, specialized practice and the cultural dissemination of contemporary architecture. With the support of Moscow's C:CA, Jorge García de la Cámara, director of the BIArch, will be presenting the Institute's new post-professional Master's degree program in architecture, the MBIArch, at the VKHUTEMAS Gallery, May 17, 2010.

What does it mean: beyond public space?
A new significance for open space in the metropolis makes it possible, based on a new model of the city, to rediscover it and to design it differently. It is no longer the traditional, compact city with its streets, plazas, boulevards, and parks. We are developing a new interpretation: new open space in the urban sprawl of cities facilitates cohesion and communication and offers itself as an innovative strategy for defining the metropolis. A new layer is overlapping the various layers of meaning that constitute the greater area of a city.
